Gardening

Garden flourishing. Green beans are beautiful.

North Cape

We went to North Cape on the boat for 3 days. We had a good weather pattern and there was no swell at all. The coast is beautiful lined with white sand beaches. No one around but it is winter! We had a great time. Caught a few big snapper but no kingfish. The snapper were fat and delicious.

Winter in Northland

Winter now.... The grass growth has slowed down a bit.
We have been working getting a new roof on the house and new spouting. It all looks great and keeps us dry. The daylight hours are getting quite short now. It is now almost 7am and still dark outside!

Piglets are growing

The two piglets have grown heaps in the last week. They are on solid food now and there is a bit of competition going on. Snorkel is not too pleased about sharingher food with the wee ones, but they are too fast and she can't chase them away successfully. What a good mum....

Early morning kingfish

We were lucky enough to get a kingfish this morning. We had an overnight at a bay and got up for an early sunrise fish. Garry caught this on his second jig. We thanked tane for the fish and went happily home.

Firewood sorted

Firewood - Before and after. We hired the log splitter and got our firewood sorted a bit. We have 2 more truckloads to stack but are on our way to a warm winter.

Snorkel and her piglet

Snorkel finally reappeared and she has a piglet! There are actually two piglets but she only had one when we went to feed her. Snorkel was not at all bothered about us being around her baby, she was mostly concerned about her food. We are so happy she is back. She has been missing for about 3 weeks!

Manta ray encounter

Went away for two nights up north on the boat.

We were lucky enough to have a manta ray feeding by our boat for about half an hour.

Garry tried to swim with it, but it was very fast and he could never get close enough. We had a nice relaxing time away.

Tutukaka Concert on the Marina

Went to a great concert last weekend at Tutukaka. Fat Freddy's Drop was the main band. The whole concert was fun with lots of good music and nice crowds. The Adults first band and Anika Moa, Boh Runga and Hollie Smith second. Highly recommended. A well run and well worth attending vineyard tour!

Lumberjacking - Coopers Beach

Autumn is in the air - so we are busy collecting firewood for the winter. We have heaps of cypress for the lighter wood and are cutting wattles for our longer burning stash. Did our first trip today and filled the truck. Two more truckloads should do us.

Garry mowed this morning and is going bluenose fishing tomorrow. Hope he gets one!
